Description of Rotary Kiln

As a preprocessing device, rotary kiln is mainly used to raise materials to a high temperature (calcination) in a continuous process. The materials can be processed by rotary kilns include cement, lime, refractories, metakaolin, titanium dioxide, alumina, vermiculite, iron ore pellets, etc. The rotary kiln is widely used in the fields of building materials, metallurgy, chemical industry, environmental protection, etc.

Main Types of Rotary Kilns

According to different handling materials, rotary kiln can be divided into cement kiln, metallurgy chemical kiln and lime kin. 

1. Cement kiln (cement rotary kiln) including dry process cement kiln and wet process cement kiln, is mainly used to calcine cement clinker. 

2. Metallurgy chemical kiln is mainly used to magnetize and roast lean iron ore in the metallurgy industry; oxidize and roast chromium, nickel-iron ore; roast high bauxite ore in the refractory factory and clinker and aluminum hydroxide in the aluminum factory; and roast chromium ore and powder in the chemical factory.

3. Lime kiln (active lime kiln or lime rotary kiln) is used to roast active limestone and calcined dolomite in the steel factory and ferroalloy factory.

Structural Features of Rotary Kiln

1. Kiln shell as heated rotary part is made of high quality calm steel plate. Kiln shell controls the axial movement of the drum through the tyre bearing 2~7 gear bearing device, and a gear or gear bearing device equipped with mechanical or hydraulic blocking-wheel.

2. Gear is in the required speed turning through the cylinder ring gear in the middle of the kiln shell.

3. Larger kiln is designed the auxiliary drive device with low rotating speed because of the installation and maintenance requirement.

4. Reliable sealing devices are designed in the feeding end (tail) and discharge end (head) of kiln to prevent the cold air into the kiln and the flue gas dust overflow.
